Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief
Hurricane Katrina was the worst natural disaster to hit our country. The southern states along the Gulf Coast were devastated – beyond imagination. The recovery and build-out for the Gulf States will take many years, and thousands upon thousands of volunteers. Project TeamWork recruits faith-based volunteer work teams – groups who have skills and a desire to serve. If you have a church group, faith-based relief team or youth group, consider the Biloxi, Mississippi area.

Volunteer Village For

The village, constructed under the bleachers of The Yankie Football Stadium, provides heated and air-conditioned dorm rooms for up to 100 volunteers. Each room sleeps 8 – 12, in oversized bunk-beds. Bathrooms are very conveniently located – indoors. And the showers provide plenty of hot water.
Three meals a day are served to all the volunteers; provided by Salvation Army cooks who are on staff full time. Salvation Army staff run the facility to provide a safe and comfortable environment that promotes interaction and new friendships between groups.
Recovery and build out following Hurricane Katrina, for the Gulf States, will take many years, and thousands upon thousands of volunteers. This is the hope for recovery. Your group can be a part of this hope.
Your church or faith-based relief team may be looking for an opportunity to serve. Contact BJ Behnken for more information.
You may also visit The Salvation Army website for information about serving directly with them.
